10,9,8,7… It’s so close I can practically see the sparkling ball starting to make its drop as Ryan Seacrest stands shivering in Times Square.  New Year’s Eve is an exciting night, but the question arises… How can you celebrate with little ones whose bed times fall several hours before the clock turns to 2014?   Have no fear, Alamo City Moms Blog is here to share several fun family friendly events that are happening in San Antonio on New Year’s Eve.

San Antonio Children’s Museum Kids’ Countdown incorporates the fun and excitement of the new year without staying up all night.  The party starts at 9:30 am on December 31st and includes a countdown, ball drop, and toast with sparkling grape juice as the clock hits 12:00 pm.  Confetti will fly as you and your children celebrate, giving the true feel of a New Year’s party.  Tickets are available for both members and non-members.  After you leave the Museum, you could head over to Fogo de Chao for a late lunch. Located near the Riverwalk, this fun Brazilian barbecue restaurant is featuring a New Year’s lunch special ($29.50 per person, children 6 and under are complimentary, children 7 to 12 are half price).  Call ahead or use OpenTable for reservations to ensure you have a table.

New Year’s Eve Twilight Party at Sea World could make a great family outing for families with elementary aged children.  Included with your admission to the park, Sea World does a big firework celebration at 9pm.  All of the attractions that are part of the Christmas Celebration, including the new this year Snow World, will be open on the 31st. Interested in really making a night of it?  You can purchase tickets that include top-notch seating in the Christmas cove, a dinner buffet, and a complimentary blanket.  Fiesta Texas’ Holiday in the Park is also open on New Year’s Eve for those that are looking for a fun theme park experience.

Celebrate San Antonio is a free event that takes place in the heart of our city.  Starting at 5pm on New Year’s Eve, Hemisfair Park will host a family friendly festival that includes live music.  50 booths featuring food and beverages will be available to those looking to start the celebration during the afternoon.  This party is sponsored by the San Antonio Parks Foundation and could be a great way to enjoy downtown on the last day of 2013.

Looking to take a vacation to ring in the New Year?  Think about taking a stay-cation and heading to Hyatt Hill Country’s New Year’s Eve Party for Families.  Located in the gorgeous outskirts of San Antonio, this resort throws a one-of-a-kind a party!  From games and carnival rides to smores by the fire and a champagne (and apple cider) toast at midnight, this family oriented celebration really has something for every one.  Included in the package for a family of four is a late check-out of your hotel room since you’ll be up late watching a special fireworks show as well as a New Year’s Day buffet.

Just looking to get some energy out of your little ones on New Year’s Eve? Consider a trip to the San Antonio Zoo, the Botanical Gardens, Natural Bridge Caverns, or head over to Inflatable Wonderland for some fun indoor play (all open on December 31st).

  1. Catch a Rio Taxi and see the holiday lights on the Riverwalk. Buy a 24-hour pass so you can get on and off for bathroom breaks and snack time.
