Fiesta is here! Mamas, it’s time to get out your embroidered tops and capris, your white jeans, your bohemian accessories, your brightly colored sundresses and your sandals. That takes care of YOUR Fiesta wardrobe, but your kids are growing a mile a minute, and more likely than not, last year’s Fiesta outfits aren’t going to fit them! What to do? Whether you head to a superstore, explore local shops, or take to the internet to do a little shopping, there are lots of ways to dress your kids for the parades and festivals that make San Antonio so much FUN in April.[hr]
Go Local
One sure-fire way to get in the Fiesta spirit is to take a quick trip to Alamo Fiesta or the shops in Historic Market Square. You can find colorful embroidered dresses, guayaberas, wreaths for your door or your hair, and cascarones galore at these festive local spots, all while supporting our San Antonio economy. For the big and little boys in your life, check out Penner’s for traditional guayaberas in a variety of different fabrics, colors and price points.
Traditional guayaberas and Mexican wedding dresses for even the tiniest Fiesta-goers can be found locally.
Hit the Superstores
This year I found some super cute outfits for my daughters, Eleanor (10) and Sadie (8) without breaking the bank at Wal-Mart and Target. Sadie can’t decide whether to wear this outfit to Taste of New Orleans or the Pooch Parade:
Cherokee Girls’ Fashion Top, $12.99 and Circo Girls’ Jean Shorts, $14.99. Both at Target.
Target has some darling boho-inspired tops and bottoms that are perfect for festival-going. Eleanor loves this top and these light blue denim capris, embroidered with happy daisies.
Cherokee Girls’ Fashion Top, $12.99 and Circo Girls’ Jeans, $14.99, and Exhilaration Ombre Fedora, all at Target.
I scored these sundresses for the girls recently at Wal-Mart. For only $7.84 each, Eleanor and Sadie will be ready for confetti.
Wal-Mart, Faded Glory Girls’ Challis Dresses.
Popular Retail Options
I usually browse Old Navy when their Spring stuff is just coming out to find cute and affordable Fiesta-inspired clothing for my whole family. My sister has had a lot of luck finding guayaberas for her boys here, and this year is no exception. Here are a couple of cuties my nephew, Dawson, has worn in the past:
The white and tan guayabera is actually a romper! This year Old Navy is selling a precious chambray version.
Just in case the warm weather turns a little cooler, I’m always on the lookout for something cute to layer over the girls’ outfits. We found these denim jackets at The Children’s Place and snapped them up.
Dip Dyed Jacket, $22.46 and Watercolor Floral Jacket, $26.95, both at The Children’s Place.
It wouldn’t be Fiesta without SHOWING YOUR SHOES! Sadie went wild for these colorful sandals, while Eleanor preferred something a little more grown up. We found all of these sandals at Rack Room Shoes.
Surf & Shop
For fancier Fiestas, check out Garnet Hill Kids. I bought my girls these adorable Amazing Lace Dresses to wear to a River Parade party this year. The dresses are also available as tops, which would look precious with white jeans. If it’s chilly, the jackets we bought at The Children’s Place will be perfect for layering.
Garnet Hill Kids Amazing Lace Dresses, on sale now for $43.
Hanna Andersson has bright and comfy pillowcase dresses in Latin-inspired fabrics this year. These dresses will be great for a hot afternoon at the Charreada. I’m certain Sadie will pair hers with her pink cowboy boots from Academy.
Pillowcase Dresses from Hanna Andersson, now on sale for $20.
Austin Trading Co. Girls’ Damsel Western Boots, $29.99 at Academy Sports & Outdoors.
My family is all set for some Fiesta fun! Where do you buy your kids’ clothes for Fiesta?
I actually just go through their closets and find the brightest clothes I can find! I love it.. I want to know where to find inexpensive decorations… I’ve shopped Walmart but often times they are running low and Market can get $$.
