Having a baby means that you require a lot more stuff.  After all, you are adding another human to your life and home, and it’s pretty amazing all of the things that one tiny creature requires.  If you are anything like me, you may have found yourself overwhelmed with what to do with all of the baby stuff you acquired, especially things like clothes, gear, and toys once they are outgrown.  And since we’re being honest, having a baby is a major investment.  You financially put a lot into gathering all of the accouterments needed, so why not figure out a way to make some of that money back ?  I know, it can seem like a big task to consign, but have no fear, Alamo City Moms Blog is here to solve that problem for you!  Jen Hodo of Just Between Friends- San Antonio answered questions for us (spoiler alert: it’s way more simple than you think) about the ease of  being a consignor at her next sale on October 9-11.

Consignment Made Easy

Tell us a little about Just Between Friends.

Just Between Friends is the nation’s leading children’s consignment sale event. We have our event twice a year (fall and spring). It is a great way to save money, stretch your budget and sell items you don’t need and get great deals on items you do need.

How does it work?

You register online, price your items, select whether or not it goes half price and whether or not it donates. You print your tag, tag your items and drop them off at our event. We sell your items, accept credit cards, advertise the event and send you a check.

How much does it cost?

We give you 60% of the sales price less a $10 consignor fee. If you help 4 hours with our event, we give you an additional 10% of the sales price for a total of 70% less a $10 consignor fee. If you helped with our last event and this event, we waive the $10 consignor fee.

Why JBF instead of Ebay, Craigs List or resale shops?

You make more money with JBF than you do with resale shops. You have total control over your pricing. Ebay is more time consuming to list and ship each item separately. Craigs list can be time consuming to meet your buyers plus there is a safety factor as well.  We also are invested in helping the community by making donations to local charities.

How does the donation part of JBF work?

We donate 100% of our admission fee to Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries and all of our donations at the end of the event go to them as well.

What are the added benefits of JBF?

You get to shop the presale if you are a consignor or a helper. Helpers shop first based on the number of hours they help. We send you a check within 2 weeks (easy peasy). We partner with our charity HCDB that helps MANY, MANY local families in San Antonio and 7 local counties. You can see your sales online to see how many items you have sold. J

What if I don’t have time to tag my items?

We offer a valet tagging service. You call to make an appointment, drop off your clean items, and we will price them and take them to the event. You get 45% of the sales price less a $20 consignor fee. All items must go half price and donate.

Tagging Tips:

  1. Let your items go half price. As crazy as it seems, many shoppers will only purchase half price items on Saturday even if there is a lower priced item that is full price.
  2. We only accept items that are in good condition (no stains or wear) so double check your items.
  3. For smaller sizes, make outfits as they sell better. For larger sizes, most shoppers just want to buy an individual item as opposed to a set.
  4. Attach your shoes with zip ties so they don’t get separated.
  5. Put any lose toy pieces in a Ziploc bag, tape the top and attach it with a zip tie to the main item. This prevents pieces from getting separated.
  6. If you’re selling bows or socks, put them in sets in ziplock bags.
  7. Books, movies and games sell really well. Don’t forget to tag those items.
  8. We also typically sell out of our bigger toys like outdoor toys or bicycles, so don’t forget to price those items.

There you go- consigning made easy with Just Between Friends- San Antonio!  So schedule in some time to go through your child’s stuff and pass them along to another happy family, with the added bonus of knowing you are helping a local non-profit.  And if you’re looking for a great steal on childrens’ goods (you can learn about Elizabeth’s secret to dressing her children in this blog post), make sure to grab your tickets early to the upcoming October sale!
