Confession: I didn’t want to live in Leon Springs.
It was really nothing against Leon Springs per se, I just loved my little neighborhood in Helotes and wasn’t psyched about making the trek down I-10 to live in some little non-town between San Antonio and Boerne. All that changed one day when I was driving down yet another country road home from HEB and happened to notice a sign on one of the houses on Boerne Stage Road:”The Point Park and Eats.” I commented to my husband how weird it was to have a restaurant inside a house and went on my way. A few days later, we drove by again and saw that the parking lot had been filled with food trucks. We immediately stopped the car. After some good wine, conversations with new neighbors, and delicious, unique food at The Point Park and Eats, I began to warm up to Leon Springs.
The Point Park and Eats is an open air bar and food truck park that is open Wednesday through Sunday. On any of those evenings, you can find between 3 and 6 food trucks, all carrying vastly different types of food. If your family is anything like mine, attempting to plan dinner usually goes a little something like this:
Parent 1: What do you want for dinner tonight?
Parent 2: I could go for Asian food.
Kid 1: Pizza! Pepperoni pizza!
Kid 2: Yogurt and strawberries!
Eating at a food truck park solves this problem, because everyone can get what he or she wants for dinner (maybe not yogurt and strawberries, but let’s face it, that kid wasn’t going to eat anyway). Last time we went, my husband got a pork taco, my oldest got pizza, my youngest got a hamburger, and I got a salad so I could have a cupcake and wine for dessert.
There is a huge play area with oodles of structures to occupy your kids while you sit under the pergola and enjoy an adult beverage or 2. On most nights, a local band plays softly next to the trucks while you eat. Just be sure to keep half an eye on your kid while enjoying said beverage… A few months ago my daughter was crying on the swings and I was too busy yukking it up to notice.I about died of embarrassment when another mom had to walk around the park with a crying kid yelling,”Whose kid is this?” It happens.
One of my favorite things about The Point is that instead of individual tables and booths, there are family-style picnic tables. Oftentimes on a crowded night you are forced to share tables with other families, which is what redeemed Leon Springs for me on that first night. At the Point, we’ve met families that live in our neighborhood and chatted at the bar with other parents from my 5 year old’s school. We’ve gotten the dirt on which food truck is the best and who is the best teacher at the local elementary school. It was at The Point when I began to really see Leon Springs as a great community and not just a bump in the road on the way to Boerne.
If you come, and I hope by now you know that you should, don’t be alarmed by the road construction on Boerne Stage Road. Bring your dogs and your kids. Just park off on the shoulder like everyone else and grab yourself a cold drink and a seat in the shade.
And if you see a crying kid on the playground, come find me because she’s probably mine.

I’m so glad I saw your blog post. We have been wanting to try it for the longest time. I wasn’t sure how truly kid-friendly it is. Now we will definitely go!

I hope you like it Jen! I don’t typically wax poetic about restaurants (ok…that’s a lie. I really like food.) but the Point is a lot of fun.
We pass this when we go to church at Cross Mountain on Sundays and I’ve wondered about eating there. Thanks for mentioning what you ate as we eat gluten free and a salad should work out fine. After reading this I’ll make it a point to stop there one Sunday after church.
Yes, Christina, there are typically a few healthy options at each truck. Also with food trucks, you can chat with the chefs since they are right there in the trucks when you’re ordering. Let me know how you like it!
