Enrichment Classes and After-School Programs at The DoSeum

We are thrilled to have partnered with The DoSeum to bring our readers the latest information about San Antonio’s new children’s museum.

The DoSeum isn’t just a fun place to take your kids to let them burn off some energy; it also offers special educational activities as part of serving children in the community. Starting this fall, The DoSeum is hosting a multitude of classes for children of all ages. Don’t let the word “classes” fool you, though. These take place in a very different environment from a typical classroom! They are engaging, fun, and designed to truly enrich and enhance learning. The DoSeum is also hosting some wonderful public programs this fall, including the Creative It! Convention and Where Rivers Meet. There are a few ticketed events coming up like ReDo Recess, a fun and parents-only night out at The DoSeum.

After-school at the DoSeum

After-School Learning Sessions

Classes are offered in four-week sessions, and they are free if you have a membership to The DoSeum. All About STEM includes a small materials fee.

The following classes still have open spots (there are others offered that are full) and begin the week of October 5th:

All About STEM

($25 materials fee for a four-week session)

Tuesday or Thursday | 4:00 P.M.

Ages 8–5th grade

Give your child the hands-on experience he/she needs to fully understand challenging STEM concepts, all while having fun! Kids will create their own 3D print designs, learn programming for simple robotics, and explore aerodynamics and measurement through hands-on activities and investigations.

Shadow Puppets

Monday or Wednesday | 4:00 P.M.

Ages 8–5th grade

Cultivate your child’s creativity with this combination of theater, design, and art. Kids will use their imaginations, as well as a deepening understanding of characters and stories, to transform the shadow stage in Sensations Studio into a fictional world of their own creation. Kids will create original sets and design custom characters and puppets using a variety of techniques.

Additional sessions are available starting the week of November 2nd, including:

Globetrotters

Wednesday | 4:00 P.M.

Ages 7–5th grade

Kids curious about the world around them will use stories as a passport to travel the world! Kids and caregivers discover different cultures from places near and far through fables, fairy tales, and other traditional literature.

Drop-in Programs

These are classes offered daily and are free with paid admission or membership.

Never-Ending Animation

Monday, Wednesday, Friday | Art Studio

Kids can go beyond just reading a story by bringing it to life. Your child will create their own story and timeline and become a director, set-designer, or producer with both 2D and 3D technology.

Looking for the Clues

Tuesday and Thursday | Art Studio

Observation and reflection are the keys to literacy. Kids will explore artworks in the Art Studio and search galleries for clues that will deepen their appreciation and understanding of art.

Trash or Treasure: Presented in collaboration with the City of San Antonio

Tuesday, 3:00–5:00 P.M.; and Thursday, 11:00 A.M.–2:00 P.M. & 4:00–5:00 P.M. | Art Studio

Add to our cloth collage mural with materials recycled from The DoSeum’s Innovation Station gallery. Kids will learn about resourcefulness and recycling in a creativity-fueled workshop.

Color Canopy Explosion

Saturday & Sunday, 11:00 A.M.–noon & 2:00–3:00 P.M. | Art Yard

Kids will use a variety of art methods and materials to make art come alive. Whether yarn bombing or creating color caves, they will transform their ideas into a reality with collaborative art.

Super-Sized Stories

Saturday 10:00 A.M. & 1:00 P.M.; and Sundays, 11:00 A.M.

Readers of ALL ages are invited to an interactive story-telling, where families will follow along by moving and rhyming with the reader. Books are brought to life using props, music, and above all, imagination!

Innovation Station Workshop

Saturday & Sunday | Innovation Station

Visit the workshop in Innovation Station for some hands-on activities that challenge minds of all ages.
