Alamo City Moms Blog is excited to partner with Cirque Italia to bring you information about their traveling non-animal water circus, Aquatic Spectacular.
As a child, I was fascinated by the circus. Like many of you, I immediately imagine lions, tigers and elephants when I think of sideshow tents. However, Cirque Italia’s Aquatic Spectacular is not your typical circus. In fact, it is like no other circus you’ve seen before! It was intentionally created to be a unique, water-based experience that focuses on acrobatics and aerial performance instead of animals.
The producer, Manuel Rebecchi, was born in Milan, Italy and as a child traveled throughout Europe with his famous aunt, Moira Orfei, and her incredible circus. His uncle even received the prestigious Gold Clown award, given to him directly by Prince of Monaco. Thus, Manuel will tell you that the art of circus performance runs deep in his blood. He came to the U.S. in 2003 with a deep passion to bring European-style performances to families here. His dream is now a reality as he presents his best work through Cirque Italia’s Aquatic Spectacular. “I want to see people have fun, enjoy the show, and go out with a smile and the desire to come back!” says Manuel.
Prepare to be captivated by the custom-designed water stage, which holds 35,000 gallons of water and allows for dramatic special effects and dazzling moves.
Cirque Italia brings talented artists from all over the world to perform under the big top, including THE MUSICAL CLOWNS, who offer a variety of side-splitting and slapstick comedy, and the VERTICALI ACT all the way from Italy. Wouldn’t you like to hear this artist sing Andrea Bocelli while performing upside down?
You’ll be stunned by the optical illusion and hypnotism of the LASER MAN ACT, in which a performer defies the laws of physics. Watch in awe as he “holds” a beam of light in his hand, splits it in two, and then bends it and wields it like light saber! Magic will fill the air as the TWIN SAILORS engage with the audience and perform the DUO AERIAL RING.
Children of all ages will be intrigued by the spectacular MERMAID as she emerges from her shell and swims through the fountains.
