Shop2Care: Giving Back to San Antonio Throughout the Holiday Season

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post from Shop2Care. Alamo City Moms Blog partners with brands and organizations that we know our readers will enjoy, and we are especially thrilled about this app that allows San Antonians to support our community through the holidays!

Shop2Care Feature 2Ah, the holiday season is upon us, and next Friday, Black Friday, will begin the frenzy that is holiday shopping. My daughter, prompted by a question from a stranger about what was on her “holiday list,” asked me to help her start her list just last week. As we sat down and she named off items—a new doll, scooter, castle, and pretend bow and arrow—I was a little uncomfortable with the “want, want, want” that seemed to start so early.

In our family, we have a special birthday gift tradition: our kids pick a charity they’d like to support or a type of donation they’d like to request, and in lieu of birthday presents, we ask friends and families to give items that we can then pass on. However, for Christmas, we go full-on consumer with a visit from Santa and gifts under the tree. Giving gifts is part of the tradition of Christmas in our family, but I’d hoped there was a way we could turn this tradition into one that still supports our community and those in need without breaking Santa’s bank.

As if my request had been heard from above, I soon learned about Shop2Care, a new app that lets you generate donations every time you shop. Finally, here is something I can wrap my arms around!

Shop2Care is simple: register for free by visiting the Shop2Care.org website using your Facebook account or an email address, select the organization you’d like to support through your shopping, and verify your account through an email. It’s that easy! Shop2Care even has an app that allows you to access your account and shop straight from your mobile device.shop2care

What’s even better is that donations made through your shopping are at no cost to you, the donor. Shop2Care works by collecting rebates through your holiday shopping and applying them to the organization of your choice. One hundred percent of the rebates generated go toward causes you choose to support!

Right here in San Antonio, Shop2Care is teaming up with the San Antonio Food Bank. The San Antonio Food Bank partners with 530+ agencies, providing food to more than 58,000 individuals per week. Thirty-six percent of the San Antonio Food Bank’s clients are children. Did you get that? Thirty-six percent are children who are hungry, who wouldn’t otherwise have food adequate to feed them if not for the efforts of the San Antonio Food Bank. Shop2Care’s average rebates from retailers are 5%, so for every $10 spent through Shop2Care, $0.50 goes back to the San Antonio Food bank…which equals three to four meals provided to San Antonians in need and their children.

To specifically support the San Antonio Food Bank through your Shop2Care Holiday Shopping like our family did, just enter the promo code SAFB upon registration. You can shop at retailers like Nordstrom, Amazon, the Lego Store, the Disney Store, and more!shop2care2

I encourage you to use your holiday shopping to support our local community and the San Antonio Food Bank through Shop2Care. Happy holidays!
