Why, Hello, Downtown Dallas…Nice to Meet You!

A huge thank you to our partner, Omni Hotel Dallas, for hosting the 2015 City Moms Blog Sister Site Conference!

As a mom, it’s not often that you get the chance to unplug, recharge, and spend some quality time with other moms in exactly the same place in life as you. Once a year, I am lucky enough to get to do just that through City Moms Blog Network’s Sister Site Conference. While technically this is a work conference, when you love every second of what you do, along with the women who do it alongside you, “conference” tends to feel a lot more like “vacation.”

In October, the 2015 Sister Site Conference was hosted at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Dallas. Now as a native Texan, yes, I’ve had my fair share of trips to Dallas (even living there for a short period of time), but most often they are to visit friends or family and my time there is spent being a guest in someone’s home rather than getting to know the Dallas area hotels. No offense to my friends and family, but after our experience at staying at the Omni Dallas, I’m going to bet that my next visits there will be spent as a hotel guest rather than a house guest. Yes, it really was that lovely.

Located in the heart of downtown Dallas on Lamar Street and Young Street and clearly marked by The Pegasus Sign out front that flew over the Dallas skyline for more than 60 years, the Omni Dallas is within walking distance to attractions like the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza (JFK Museum), Klyde Warren ParkNasher Sculpture Center, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Old Red Courthouse, the West End Historic District, the Dallas World AquariumVictory Park, and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. It’s also just blocks from the Katy Trail (which made this runner’s morning runs quite enjoyable!). There are restaurants around every corner, as well as a variety of restaurants and bars on property. My favorites had to be the Uptown Terrace with its beautiful patio overlooking the Dallas skyline, just perfect for a glass of wine with the girls, and Texas Spice with local ingredients and southern style.

The hotel rooms are beautifully appointed and spacious, with beds that you can sink into at the end of the day. We shared rooms with our team members, but I couldn’t help but think that the large rooms with two large queen beds would be perfect for my family of four to come back and enjoy.

In my former life I was a hotelier, so I might possibly be one of the world’s hardest hotel guests since I know the ins and outs of that world…and yet Omni Dallas did not disappoint. Their service was stellar, and we were always met with a smile and helping hand.

While we didn’t have a ton of downtime, I did check out the full service Mokara Spa and heated pool—perfect for a girls getaway, a romantic trip, or family fun with a little relaxing mixed in. Since we were there for business, I’ll add in that the meeting space was well laid out, and the food served in the meeting space was delicious!

One of my favorite parts of our conference weekend was dinner hosted by Sarah Harmeyer of Neighbor’s Table. If you aren’t familiar with the story of Neighbor’s Table, it fits so perfectly into the mission of City Moms Blog Network to connect moms across the country. Sarah had her dad build a table in her backyard because her home was too small to entertain. Sarah set a goal of welcoming 500 people to her table in one year, and her love mission grew from there, with people all over the country asking for similar tables—hence, Neighbor’s Table was birthed. Sarah is a gracious and warm hostess, and if you EVER in your life have the opportunity to join her for a meal, do not say no.
