It’s not often busy moms can get out for a relaxing night with other moms, especially on a weeknight. Yet that’s exactly what happened last week at Topgolf. Half of the Alamo City Moms Blog team came out to see firsthand what the Topgolf buzz is all about. Behind those towering nets seen from 1604 is a three-story, open-air golfing facility chock full of fun for everyone.

It should be noted that no one on our team golfs regularly. We all expressed concern over the public seeing our amateur golf swing in action. But I’m here to tell you not to worry. The atmosphere is inviting and laid back; it’s not intimidating at all for first-time golfers. If you do feel anxious, there’s full bar service to ease the nerves.

Couple that with the delicious menu, and it’s quite the party. As a matter of fact, Topgolf just received News 4 Kitchen Cop’s Blue Plate Award last week for outstanding cuisine. My favorite dish was the Mushi. It’s basically a burrito rolled up and beautifully served like a sushi roll complete with dipping sauce. The photo below shows all that we devoured that night, and all I can say is yum!

We had such a blast being together and helping each other figure out which golf club was for what while enjoying the breezy, covered patio bay. (Bays, as they call them, are similar to lanes at a bowling alley and either have tables or couches for relaxing in between golf swings.) This all-weather facility is equipped with huge oscillating fans to keep the bays cool on the hottest of days being that the entire facility opens up to the huge outdoor greens. Likewise, they turn on the heaters to keep the bays warm on cold, wintery days. That means everyday is a perfect day to golf at Topgolf.

We were thrilled to receive a quick lesson by three-time PGA Golf TOUR winner David Ogrin. He is the Director of Instruction at Topgolf San Antonio and truly has the heart of a teacher plus the wit of a comedian. He had us laughing and swinging with better form in five minutes. He explained that groups can receive an hour of instruction for as little as $29/each! That’s a great way to get the basics of the game down and make your visits more competitive.

Topgolf also offers a Kidzone on the lower level with no bar visibility or access. It’s ideal for youth events and birthdays. This is the area where junior tournaments and youth programs are held. In fact, their Summer Academy is starting June 6th and operates as a weekly, half-day clinic from 9:00 A.M.–noon. Ages 6 to 16 are welcome. The student-to-teacher ratio is kept at 6:1 or less for in-depth, hands-on attention as the students develop their golf swing.

Plus, each student receives a Lifetime Membership Card, Lunch, (1) Topgolf Summer Academy T-shirt, (1) Junior Golf Glove, a Topgolf gift, and Certification of Completion for only $199/week. However, if you register your child before May 31st, you’ll receive a 20% discount. It’s perfect for keeping those kiddos active this summer and introducing them to beloved sport of golf.

While touring the Topgolf facility, we saw birthday celebrations going on, happy hours with co-workers, and even families enjoying the night out. It’s the perfect place to gather for special occasions, and they offer several private rooms and spaces for larger group events. Visit their website to see 360-degree views of the facility and to find out more about how to book an event.

I highly recommend you check it out soon with your family or friends. I love that it makes me want to play a sport I had never really been exposed to.
