Culture Meets Fun at the Annual Asian Festival on Saturday, February 4!

Alamo City Moms Blog is thrilled to partner with the Institute of Texan Cultures to bring you information on the annual Asian Festival that takes place in early February.

In its 30th year, the Asian Festival brings together this city’s thriving Asian communities, giving San Antonians the chance to discover Asia and celebrate the Chinese New Year without ever stepping on a plane.

Visitors of all ages are invited to be part of the fun next Saturday at the 2017 Asian Festival. Enjoy captivating music, set out on journeys with storytellers, see a stunning, fireworks-filled lion dance, create arts and crafts—and much more! This day is the perfect opportunity to introduce young and old to the diverse Asian cultures that surround us every day.

One Day, One Continent

Thirty years ago, the Asian Festival began as a traditional family reunion for the Chinese New Year. It has now expanded to include Asian cultures from mainland China, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asian nations, and the island nations of the Pacific.

Get ready to culturally traverse each of these areas in the span of one day. With a full schedule that includes everything from cultural dances, arts and crafts, and storytelling sessions, there is no shortage of incredible things to see, try, or eat.

For the Kiddos

This year’s festival features the Children’s Learning Village, an exciting interactive village built to engage and educate youngsters. With arts and crafts galore, it will be a fun and memorable experience for kids and parents.

Families who arrive early will get to experience the awe-inspiring Opening Parade that includes San Antonio Lion Dancers using firecrackers to scare away the evil spirits. In addition to two stages dedicated to music, dance, and entertainment, families will want to stop by the Martial Arts stage to see and take part in live demonstrations.
