I saw the cute house on the side of the road as sped drove my kids to school one morning, freshly painted red.  My interest piqued, I found myself headed down Old San Antonio Road, making bets with myself about the future of this quaint place. There seemed to be a whole community working on getting it going. The progress on the new establishment was slow but steady; alas, a sign was placed boldly by the street, signifying its future inhabitant: a coffee shop.

Freedom Cup, as it turns out, is much, much more than just coffee (though if smoothies, teas, or coffees are your bag, this is still your place!).

There is a mission behind that steaming mug of coffee, and love poured out behind every plate of their gluten-free food. Freedom Cup, a locally owned and operated coffee shop and cafe, partnered with a not-for-profit coffee company called Just Love Coffee. Your purchase of darling t-shirts, pinterest-worthy decorated cakes, delectable desserts, or piping hot tea will benefit families hoping to adopt, provide fresh water to the impoverished around the world, and provide financial aide to local & international ministry partners. ” Our hope is that through this community, we can help better the lives of those around our world who are in need.”, FC’s Facebook page states. “When you buy coffee at Freedom Cup, you are investing in this vision and purpose.”

Doesn’t that feel like the kind of place you want to support? Yeah, me too.

Kid friendly? You better believe it!

Boerne and Fair Oaks mamas, head to Freedom Cup Monday-Friday 6:00-5:00, or Saturday 7:00-2:00… Grab a quiche and a frappacchino and enjoy watching your kids play on the playground (jackpot!), or leave the kiddos with dad so you can catch up on a good book or finally return all those emails that have been plaguing you with their  free WIFI. And remember, while you dine and drink you are loving on those that need our help. But if you can’t come and stay, grab a pastry, fruit cup, and cappachino for the road (menu, below).

Look at these prices!! Who knew loving others could be so inexpensive!

Happy Coffee Drinking + Loving Others (win, win)!

Maggie
Although not a native Texan, Maggie has enjoyed getting to know the city of San Antonio with her husband, a native to San Antonio. If she were a bumper sticker type of person (which she vehemently is not) she might have one of those “I didn’t grow up in Texas, but I got here as soon a I could” stickers. Maggie enjoys staying home with her children and loves the daily calamity that is raising her son (born 2011) and daughter (born 2009) in Boerne. She would always chose outdoor activities over indoor, sweatpants over dresses, crafting over TV, and cupcakes over… anything. It feels like her life has been full of “learning experiences”, and Maggie loves to share about having a micro-preemie in the NICU, her experiences as an adoptee and a heart patient, and about her family’s experiences with adopting a child on her blog Mondays with Maggie. Life is an adventure and she’s thankful to have the perfect amount of OCD and ADHD to keep up (most days).
