We had so much fun honoring our moms for Alamo City’s Amazing Mom contest that we decided to do it for the dads, and just in time for Father’s Day!  And, man-oh-man, do we have some great San Antonio dads to tell you about.

This week, we will be introducing you to our finalists and on Friday, voting will open up to YOU!  We want our readers to help us determine who will receive the title of Alamo City’s Super Dad.

Voting will be open Friday, June 13– Sunday, June 15 at noon.

Our winner will be announced on the blog on Monday, June 16!  So without further ado and in random order, here are our first four finalists:

Greg RaabergGreg Raaberg

Nominated by his wife, Kristen

Kristen’s Words:
Dear Greg,

Looking back, when we first met, I was attracted to you in many ways… but I always knew you’d be the best father. The type of father I wanted to have 4 or 5 kids with, and still have a loving marriage with! We’re not there yet with just the 2 boys, but even with my high expectations, you have blown everyone out of the water for best dada of the year!!

When you first became a father, you may have been nervous, but you grew years beyond your age… too many people joke that dads have nothing to do (when mom’s breastfeed and take on so much for infants). Well, you took the nights by storm, always bringing baby down for feedings and never running from any diaper. In fact, you did so many diapers, your belt buckle did permanent damage to our diaper changing station! I will forever look at the scratches on that furniture and think, “I could never have done any of this without him.”

When we had our second, you supported my desire to give natural birth a try. After all was said and done, you were a better doula than our actual doula! You stayed up late with me every night we thought I was in labor… due date came and went… and the actual night finally came. You timed every contraction like you were having it with me and had the hip squeeze method down better than the doula. You broke all your Mr. Safety rules getting me to the hospital and 7cm. The next hours went quickly, but you put me first in every way and never left my side. When I gave up and wouldn’t push, you waited. You have always known me better than I’ve known myself.

Our boys have the best role model to be future husbands and fathers. The type of husbands and fathers that put their family first, and quickly find out that it’s worth every sacrifice. We are so blessed to have you. Spending time with you is the best part of our life! To our beloved Greg, Dada, Rockstar, Dadu, Honey Sugar Pie… we love you more than any award, but you deserve this Super Daddy award everyday we have you!

Love love love,

Mama, Bubba, and Emmett

Larry PhillipsLarry Phillips

Nominated by his wife, Sara

Sara’s Words:  My husband is the BEST dad!  He will drop whatever he is doing to teach, play, read or play MineCraft with our boys.  He is always building fun & unique furniture for boys’ rooms.  Most recently he built a storage unit for their toys!

Rami AlhajRami Alhaj

Nominated by his wife, Mercedes

Mercedes Words: Rami definitely holds the Super Dad title in my eyes. Two little girls call him Daddy, and the love in their eyes and shrill in their voices when he walks in the door says it all. Although Rami keeps busy with the two businesses he owns and operates, he always has time to diffuse the morning meltdown or change a stinky diaper. He tries to make sure he gets home just in time to tuck Sloan into bed and read her stories as she drifts off to sleep. Not to mention the frequent breakfast taco dates to spend some very important time discussing unicorns, flowers and swimming.  He is a special guy to all of us girls, and we don’t know what we would do without him!

Robert Duncan

Robert Duncan

Nominated by his wife, Mallory

Mallory’s Words: When my husband found out he was going to be a dad, I saw an intense amount of mixed emotion in his face. He was happily excited, but I also saw a bit of worry. How would he provide and care for a baby that was coming soon? Fast-forward to a few months when I had to have an emergency c-section at 26 weeks gestation. He was so calm, supportive, and kept me grounded in a time of panic. His abundance of faith glowed through his face as he handled every detail and decision with confidence and composure. He sat next to me during the surgery and just chatted with me and even made me giggle a few times. After, he cared for our son and me in the hospital. I can only imagine the stress and worry he had going back in forth from me recovering from surgery, to our son in the NICU. A few weeks later, our son suffered a pulmonary hemorrhage on my birthday. As I once again was a wreck, my husband collected me and was the greatest father to our son. We were able to visit Conrad when he became stable. He talked to him and held his hand as our fragile son looked back at us. Three months later, our son finally got to come home! During this time, my husband worked tirelessly to get a new job to allow me to stay home with our new baby. He applied, studied, and excelled to gain a new position for a company that would provide our family with security. Now he works hard to provide for us and is even supportive of me starting a small business. Along with working full time, he helps at home with Conrad. He plays countless games of peek-a-boo, reads Brown Bear, Brown Bear back to back, and lets him take some extra time in the bath. My husband is an excellent father, even though I might not tell him all the time. He takes Conrad to the lake close to our home. He is excited to let Conrad touch the fish and look at other wildlife. He can’t wait for the day Conrad will have his own fishing pole and  be excited to go to the lake with dad. I know he will teach our son things I never could. I am so proud to call him my husband and the father of our son. Robert Duncan embodies the term “Super Dad” to the fullest. He truly deserves to be Alamo City’s Super Dad and I hope you will consider him.
