We’re Seven San Antonio Moms Stronger! Introducing Our Newest Contributors

Welcome to ACMB 2We are so thrilled to introduce you to our newest Alamo City Moms Blog team members!  You’ll get to know them more over the next few months and can find their full bios here, but here’s a little insight into our newest San Antonio moms that are joining us as contributing writers.[hr]

Ashley

Ashley BioA little about me: I was born and raised in San Antonio, recently returning “home” and bringing my Ohio-bred husband with me (he’s cool with it- he discovered queso). We’re thankful each day we don’t have to subscribe to a larger cable package because of all the free comedy and drama provided by our 4.5-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter. In addition to enjoying time with family, I also love genealogical research, Half Price Books and day dreaming about the days when I was a grant writer in an office and able to use the restroom without an audience.

Favorite thing to do with children in San Antonio? Any downtown activities that end in eating giant sugar cookies from Mi Tierra.

Aggie?  Longhorn?  Other? Vanderbilt University Commodores (but I’ve got love for all TX schools).

Favorite Spurs player? Patty Mills (Surprise! He’s not a fat Irish cop from the 19th century! He’s a hot Australian NBA champ!)

Best place to eat in San Antonio?  Chris Madrid’s now and forever.[hr]

Candice

Candice BioA little about me: I am a mother to 6 little balls of joy. Stiles is 14, Myleigh, Justin and Bella are 7, James is 5 months and my stepdaughter is 12. I was born and raised in San Antonio. I was born in the same hospital that all my children were born in and delivered by the same doctor who delivered all of them. I just became a stay at home mom and am beside myself with joy.  I love my imperfect, off the charts crazy, insanely blessed little big family.

Favorite thing to do with children in San Antonio? A family trip to Morgan’s Wonderland. One of our triplets is autistic and this in the most wonderful place for her. The whole family loves it and they take amazing care of everyone there.

Aggie? Longhorn? Other? My husband has already made the girls commit to OU! 🙂

Favorite Spurs player? Tim D., of course.

Best place to eat in San Antonio? Probably Blanco BBQ, but San Antonio has so many places to go with the kids it’s hard to pick a favorite. [hr]

Christin

Christin BioA little about me: I am a proud mama to two wonderful kids Tommy (4) and Claire (9 months).  I am OBSESSED Justin Timberlake fan…no seriously…obsessed. WWJTD? I ask myself this often.   You can ask me anything about any show on BRAVO and I guarantee you I can answer it. (Insert emoji of shame face.) #sorryimnotsorry

Favorite thing to do with children in San Antonio? Our city is full of so many amazing opportunities for families but I’m in this awkward period with the ages of my kids where naps sort of rule my world. By the time we can go anywhere it’s often too darn hot! One of my most favorite places to go is right down the hall in my home. Our playroom holds more memories and more adventures than I can count. The door is always open and its free! No shoes, no shirt, no diaper? No problem! We can travel anywhere our imagination will take us and in this season of my life, it’s perfect!

Aggie? Longhorn? Other? I’m SOONER born and SOONER bred and when I die I’ll be SOONER dead, RAH Oklahoma, RAH Oklahoma, RAH Oklahoma…OKU!

Favorite Spurs player? Although he’s not on the current roster, I have to say David Robinson. What an incredible role model he’s been for so many people in San Antonio and beyond! He’s done so much for our city and seems to be such a genuinely wonderful man inside and out.

Best place to eat in San Antonio? If you would have asked me before this past weekend I would have said Bohanan’s, hands down…BUT, I went to Arcade for the first time last Saturday and it was absolutely delish!  My meal, the service, and the atmosphere were perfect from cocktail to dessert![hr]

Denise

Denise BioA little about me: I’m mom to two daughters (23 and 20) and one son (11). I love our little piece of land with all our animals – yet, still love the city life. I’ve one of those ADD brains, it rarely turns off and cannot stand to have a question unanswered.

Favorite thing to do with children in San Antonio? Our city has many amazing theaters – Majestic, Cameo, Woodlawn and more. It’s easily for all ages. We also love Market Days and the Cornyval in Helotes.

Aggie? Longhorn? Other? My husband and I are both Salukis from SIU-C [Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.] A Saluki is an Egyptian dog, well-known for its speed, agility and silk-like hair (somewhere we memorized that.)  My oldest is an Aggie and my middle is an aspiring Aggie.  Pretty sure I’d have been a Longhorn.

Favorite Spurs player? It’s hard to choose just one because they are an entity greater than their individuals. I’ll choose David Robinson. I believe he was an integral part in developing and setting the camaraderie, tone and values the team still holds.

Best place to eat in San Antonio? With kids:  Alamo Cafe hands down.  When I’m gone my kids will wistfully say “Remember when mom made us eat at Alamo Cafe every single Sunday? I miss that!”  Without kids:  The Cove, The Luxury, Rosario’s and Wine 101 (sometimes even the kids can come!)[hr]

Jessica

Jessica BioA little about me: I am not a native Texan, but my husband is, does that count?  I am the mother of two amazing girls, little sister is ten months and big sister turns three in October.  I’m grateful for being a stay-at-home mom right now, although I sometimes misses the worlds of restaurants and academia, where I spent (or misspent!) much of my young adulthood.

Favorite thing to do with children in San Antonio? I love to take the girls to the Pearl farmers market, as early as we can get there, buy something yummy and sit and eat it while we watch the crowds go by.  We also love romping around the Botanical gardens, feeding the ducks and checking out the children’s garden there.

Aggie? Longhorn? Other? This question has something to do with collegiate sports.  Am I right?

Favorite Spurs player? This question has something to do with professional sports.  Am I right?

Best place to eat in San Antonio? I have had amazing dining experiences at the restaurants at the Pearl.  But, with the kids, any place with a sandbox! [hr]

Kristin

Kristin BioA little about me: I have 2 girls-Molly is 5 and Sadie is 3. I’m originally from Maryland and a former elementary school teacher. Now, I stay at home with my kids and am a certified personal trainer and marathon runner.

Favorite thing to do with children in San Antonio? My kids and I like to go to the San Antonio Zoo and ride the train. We love to have tea parties at Mad Hatter’s Tea House afterwards.

Aggie? Longhorn? Other? I’m from Maryland, so although I won’t turn down a good tailgate at any game, I’ll always cheer for my Terps. Fear the turtle!

Favorite Spurs player? Don’t throw things at me, but I’m not a Spurs fan.

Best place to eat in San Antonio? With kids-The Point Park and Eats. Without kids-Texas de Brazil.[hr]

Maggie

Maggie McMahon Bio Pic July 2014A little about me: I’m an entrepreneur and mother of two boys (Davis, age 10 & Patrick, age 9); I recently left my corporate job to open a family business.  I met my husband of 17 years at Trinity University and after graduate school in Michigan, we returned to San Antonio, which has been home for almost 20 years. I love spending time with friends, traveling (spending time outside – the beach or the mountains) and learning new ways to meet the challenges of parenting.

Favorite thing to do with children in San Antonio? Our family tries to fill our free time with friends, fun and adventure (plus some relaxation). From checking out a new restaurant to finding a new hiking trail or exploring a new swimming hole – we’re pretty much always up for a new adventure, a quick getaway or a fun night with friends.

Aggie? Longhorn? Other? Other – we are University of Michigan fans – Go Blue! Our kids have been singing Hail to the Victors since they were old enough to talk. Locally, we support our Trinity Tigers and love going to soccer, baseball and basketball games with the boys and friends.

Favorite Spurs player? Timmy – He has such a great attitude about putting ego aside and just getting down to business. It’s the no-muss, no-fuss, go-get-em attitude I try to teach my kids.

Best place to eat in San Antonio? San Antonio has so many great places to eat these day and our family frequents ALL of them – it’s hard to choose just one. If I’m not cooking (which I love to do!), you’ll find us at The Sandbar, Cured, Bliss, El Machito, Tre Trattoria, Nosh or another great SA restaurants.
