The Do Seum’s First 500: Be a Part of San Antonio History

Alamo City Moms Blog is excited to be partnering with the San Antonio Children’s Museum for our First Birthday Bash :: A Moms Night Out Event

San Antonio is a city rich with history and we are known throughout the world because it. Indigenous cultures roamed San Antonio for thousands of years.  We were home to one of the oldest European settlements in Texas, built our first mission and fort in the early 1700’s and gained the fame we are now known for today during The Texas Revolution and the Battle of the Alamo. Our city’s history runs in our blood and we San Antonians are fiercely proud of it.

San Antonio is also a City on the Rise and is creating paths in our already rich history. We are emerging as a city that has an expanding pallet for foodies, a vibrant arts’ scene, a strengthening tech culture and a top city for families and children. If you are an ACMB reader, you know how excited we are about one of our coming attractions, The Do Seum, San Antonio’s new children’s museum, opening in June 2015. And we are thrilled that The Do Seum is offering all San Antonians a chance to be a part of our city’s history.

The Do Seum First 500

Imagine your child in the coming years visiting their favorite San Antonio destination, The Do Seum. Can you see their little brains at work as they interact with exhibits that will both entertain and challenge their minds to grow in science, technology, engineering, math and the arts? Imagine them speaking with children in another country through the video monitor in the Explore My World exhibit that will connect them with children playing in our sister city museum in Mexico City. Envision them playing in the gardens and enjoying a beautiful San Antonio day as they walk along the Children’s River.  Imagine the joy in their face as they stop with each visit to find their name, their part of history, tucked into The Do Seum.

The Do Seum is in the midst of the “First 500” Capital Campaign, one that allows San Antonio families to purchase their own personal exhibit space in the museum entrance and in the outdoor learning area. Oversized pavers in Texas limestone will be personalized and will line the front walkway. Engraved benches and stools will offer The Do Seum patrons a place to rest and will be scattered throughout the front of the museum and along the East and West yards. Donor trees with engraved plaques will line the walkway of the museum entrance and provide shade in the East and West Yards for children to relax and enjoy. Wouldn’t you love to see the elation in your children’s faces as they see their own names or that of their family’s in their favorite San Antonio destination, one where their lives will be enriched, where they will learn and grow, a destination that will be as San Antonio to them as The Alamo?

You can make your child and your family a part of this San Antonio history by supporting The Do Seum through this capital campaign. Join families like Lionel and Kathy Sosa, proud grandparents and great-grandparents, who said of the First 500 opportunity:

When we first heard that our family’s name could be on a Do Seum paver, we jumped at the chance. We did it because we are eager to support this unique wonderland that’s destined to become the go-to place for all our community, bring joy to tourists, local families and children from all over town.

Join alongside San Antonian and new dad, Garrett Heath, who said of supporting The Do Seum through The First 500:

We love knowing we were able to participate in the First 500 Campaign. When you support development in your city, you really start to feel like you are a part of it and feel proud of it. If you come across an organization or a project that you are excited about, or that you feel is an amazing opportunity for the city, help fund it! You’ll get your money’s worth.

Not only will you receive free admission into the San Antonio Children’s Museum until it closes in March 2015, but you will also receive sneak peeks into the new exhibits at The Do Seum and an invitation to the Members-Only Inaugural Opening.
