Losing the Baby Weight: My Medifast Adventure (Part Two)

We are excited to have partnered with our advertising sponsor Medifast Texas to bring you information about losing weight.

A few weeks ago, I shared the beginning of my journey to lose my baby-weight by using the Medifast 5 and 1 program. It’s been four weeks since I started this new chapter, and I’m here with an update to let you know how it’s gone and to answer a few questions I’ve been asked along the way.

How’s the Medifast program been now that you have been on the program for a month?

It’s going well! My body has adjusted to the new schedule of eating five smaller meals throughout the day and having one Lean and Green meal each evening. My energy level has been great, and I am definitely not having cravings for carbs and other snack foods like I did when I first started the program. My bad habit of grabbing a handful of crackers here and there has been broken, and most of all, I feel better!

Are you sick of eating so much of the Medifast food?

Honestly, no. I have found a few favorites, but I mix it up each week with my selections. Here’s my typical daily schedule of food: breakfast—Mixed Berry Cereal; morning snack—Chocolate and Peanut Butter Granola Bar; lunch—Pineapple Mango Smoothie; afternoon snack—Cheese Bites; dinner—Lean and Green meal; evening snack—Brownie Bake. I also like Medifast’s Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Cereal, Triple Berry Smoothie, Chili Nacho Bites, Smore Granola Bar, Blueberry Muffin Bake, Chewy Cookie Dough Bar, Mashed Potatoes, and Chocolate Chip Cookie Bake. There are more than 70 foods that are available, so I have lots of different options.

Isn’t Medifast a lot of processed food? Is that good for you, given the movement toward eating “clean”?

Yes, Medifast food is processed, which isn’t necessarily in line with the current diet fad of eliminating things that aren’t natural. I tried to eat “clean” all the time at some point over the past year, but I ended up feeling overwhelmed by all of the different rules. My opinion is that if it takes processed food for me to get to a healthy weight and BMI, that’s much better for me than trying (and failing) to eat clean all the time. Also, the Lean and Green meals I eat every day follow the popular clean method of eating. The only thing that I typically add that is processed is a light salad dressing. After I meet my goal weight, the program will shift, and I won’t eat nearly as much processed food. So I see Medifast as a step in the right direction of getting healthy, and it’s working for me!

What’s the level of accountability? With other programs, you have to weigh in each week. Do you have to do that?

Yes! I meet with my counselor every week to weigh in. We talk for a little bit about the week ahead, and she helps answer any questions I have as well as provides positive encouragement.

What’s the hardest part of being on the Medifast program?

Since I’m currently on the 5 and 1 program, I eat one true meal per day. There is a way to split up my Lean and Green meal into two meals, but I prefer to keep it to one meal to maintain the fidelity of the program. I also like to have my Lean and Green for dinner every day (which I don’t have to do, but it works for me). I’d say the hardest part is not being able to grab lunch with a friend or passing on a hamburger at a barbecue so that I can have my Lean and Green at dinner time. But it certainly isn’t the worst thing ever.

What the best part of being on the Medifast program?

The results and how I feel! I definitely feel better physically and have more energy. I also feel more confident in myself when I get dressed in the morning. Here are my official stats:

Week 1: 4.1 lbs. lost

Week 2: 4.9 lbs. lost

Week 3: 2.2 lbs. lost

Week 4: 3.8 lbs. lost

Week 5: 1.8 lbs. lost

Week 6: 1.5 gained

Week 8: 4.1 lost

Week 9: 3.1 lost

Week 10: 3.0 lost

Total: 25 lbs. lost
