My Medifast Adventure: How I Lost 33 Pounds in Three Months

We are excited to have partnered with our advertising sponsor Medifast Texas to bring you information about getting healthy and becoming the best version of yourself.

On June 10, I started a new chapter in my life to lose my baby weight, get healthy, and feel good about myself by using the Medifast  Jump Start 5 & 1 program. I checked in a few weeks later about how everything was going on my journey, and now I’m sharing my final post after using the Medifast program for 12 weeks!

The Medifast program is very simple: I eat five pre-packaged Medifast meals and one “Lean and Green” meal every day. I drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water, and during my second month on the program, I committed to walking 10,000 steps a day. I definitely found my groove and the foods I like, and my routine is very easy to follow because it’s all laid out for me.

Here are my results:

Month 1: 15 lbs. lost

Month 2: 10.8 lbs. lost

Month 3: 7.2 lbs. lost

Total: 33 lbs. and 26.25 inches lost

Besides the obvious health benefits of losing 33 lbs. and having a BMI that is considered normal, I have learned a lot over the past few months. It’s hard to for me talk about it sometimes because I am a pretty private person, but I want to share four reasons I am so glad that I made the commitment to embark on my Medifast adventure:

I have significantly more energy.

Before starting Medifast, my energy level was what I would consider to be low to medium. By cutting down on carbs and other foods that made me feel sluggish, my energy level has skyrocketed. Being 33 lbs. lighter also makes walking a little easier, and my once-broken foot hasn’t hurt since before I started the program. I love having more energy to chase around my one- and four-year-old boys. In addition to the vitamins I take as part of the 5 & 1 program, making sure to hit my 64 ounces of water each day also adds to my energy. I notice that I start to hit a rut in the afternoon if I haven’t been drinking enough water throughout the day!

My tastes have changed.

I am not embarrassed to admit that I have a sweet tooth. I have never met a baked good that I didn’t like. I’m not going to lie: The first month on the program was hard. I would think, “Oh, just one little cookie won’t hurt.” But I knew that one little cookie would lead to two, and then my self-control would be shot. After the first month, my cravings started to change. I took a little bite of a cookie a few weeks ago, and it was so sweet that it surprised me! Now instead of craving sweets, I crave spicier foods and proteins. My husband and I have had fun cooking flavor-filled lean meats, and I have enjoyed finding new spices and rubs to bring out different tastes. I won’t tell you that a chocolate chip cookie display in HEB looks any less amazing, but it doesn’t bother me quite as much to pass one up.

I have an awesome support system.

I can confidently say that there is no way I could have lost 33 lbs. without support from people around me. First, there is the unbelievable Medifast Texas team at Lincoln Heights. These ladies sat with me, answered a million questions, gave me honest feedback about which foods were the best, laughed with me, allowed my one-year-old to wreak havoc in their offices, and served as huge cheerleaders each and every week. They also never made me feel badly if I didn’t lose as much as I would have liked and didn’t get mad when I told them I had to have a small serving of ice cream while on vacation!

Second, there is my husband. He was very supportive of my decision to make such a drastic life change in order to get healthy. While it hasn’t been easy to forgo our frequent trips to burger and pizza joints, we have found a new normal that is significantly healthier.

Third, there are my family and friends. From texts to just say how proud they are of me to encouraging me to purchase new clothes (because I needed them), you know who you are, and I sincerely thank you. There is no way I could have done this without you!

I have gained much more than I’ve lost.

Seeing the number go down on the scale is great, but feeling good in my own skin is even better. It sounds super cheesy, but I think the confidence I have gained in myself outweighs the pounds lost. By taking care of myself, I found a new sense of who I am, and I have Medifast to thank for it!

I encourage anyone out there who might be frustrated or feeling uncomfortable with herself because of lingering baby weight to check out the Medifast program. With the kids back in school and the holidays a few months away, now is a great time to get started!

At the end of the day, losing weight isn’t the most fun, but Medifast lived up to its name, and I was able to lose weight fast. Besides the actual food, the counseling aspect is crucial: meeting with team members each and every week brought a level of accountability to the table that kept me from straying off the program![hr]
