Alamo City Moms Blog is thrilled to partner with Vital Life Wellness Center. The realization of Dr. Bernice Gonzalez’s vision for medicine, Vital Life Wellness Center combines today’s technology with yesterday’s care. Today, Dr. Gonzalez shares some information about children diagnosed with ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, and invites anyone interested in learning more about Vital Life Wellness Center’s approach to attend an information session.
“My doctor labeled my son as ADHD, wrote a script for Adderall, and sent us on our way. Is this really the answer to helping my child?”
Unfortunately, I hear this cry for help much too often. As a physician, you might think I agree with the typical knee-jerk reaction of simply prescribing meds. The truth is I have never seen medication as the answer to resolving health issues, especially in children and young adults. I’ve always known that the resolution of poor health, both physical and mental, begins with understanding and addressing the underlying cause.
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) has become so common over the last decade that many parents have become desensitized, feeling it’s a fairly normal condition. It’s disturbing to hear conversations between mothers who regard medications such as Adderall and Ritalin as being the obvious solutions. It’s no wonder, when they’ve been offered these amphetamines as the only solution to helping their child focus. Here’s the good news: There is another path you can take to help your child. This is a path that is non-invasive and has a direct impact on the imbalances that exist within your child’s brain.
“Even though my son is still in the middle of his training, I have already seen some really positive results. He is much more engaged with us. His attention during social situations has improved. Recently, at a picnic, he spent the entire time socializing with a buddy. In the past he would have become distracted and drifted off by himself. But he stayed completely engaged with his friend the entire evening. I also notice his processing is improving. He is no longer asking the same question over and over and seems to understand things much more easily. I am so excited about our results and eager to continue our training!” —Mom of 11-year-old Carter
I can certainly understand a parent’s decision to agree to medication, as I’ve had plenty of experience working with these parents and their children. Life is tough enough without constantly battling your child to do their homework, help out around the house, and focus at school. Besides, the doctor said there were very few, if any, side effects. And, heck, other parents are giving this stuff to their kids, so it can’t be too bad…right? We recognize that medications, especially amphetamines, may have long-term side effects. The question should be, “Does this really address the underlying imbalance that is creating these challenges within my child? Have I really looked into my options?”
I would love to invite you to attend one of our ADHD events where you will learn why your child is experiencing challenges, how a simple non-invasive QEEG brain scan can objectively show what’s going on in your child’s brain, and a summary of how our program may be the answer in helping your child express his/her full potential. I guarantee you will find logic in this path and new hope!
