Transforming a Culture: Breaking the Cycle of Bullying

Alamo City Moms Blog is pleased to partner with the Family Service Association to promote their luncheon series “Journeys of Transformation.” The ACMB team hopes you will join them there!

As far too many San Antonio parents know, bullying has become an everyday struggle facing our children. Now a local and nationwide epidemic, bullying will only continue to thrive unless it is met with action. As parents, teachers, and community members, we all want what is best for our children but often don’t know where to start. On Tuesday, April 18, Family Service Association is taking one step forward in the fight against bullying by hosting Barbara Coloroso, the bestselling author of Kids are Worth It! and an internationally recognized expert on bullying, parenting, and positive school climate. In Texas, Barbara has walked the walk by working alongside honorary luncheon chairs the Molak Family to fight for David’s Law legislation. Now Barbara wants to help San Antonio parents prepare to walk the walk as well by helping us understand what bullying is, what it isn’t, and how we can work together to break the cycle.

The Bully, the Bullied, and the Not-So-Innocent Bystander

Breaking the cycle takes more than stopping a bully. It requires that we figure out how a child became a bully or a target, and how bystanders keep the cycle going. Barbara Coloroso’s keynote speech will focus on each of these three roles. What are their behaviors? What is their impact? How do we create a safe harbor for each of our children, no matter what role they play? These are not easy questions, and there are no simple answers. However, as Barbara will discuss, creating circles of caring is key to breaking the cycle of violence in our homes, schools, and communities.

Journeys of Transformation

Barbara Coloroso is the latest speaker in Family Service’s ongoing Journeys of Transformations luncheon series. It successfully promotes and celebrates Family Service’s transformation of lives, families, and neighborhoods and provides a platform for transformations in our community of businesses, leadership, and individuals. Family Service has been helping San Antonio families lead happier, more productive lives for the past 113 years, and is an organization that makes a lasting impact on individual and family lives.

This impactful luncheon will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Colonnade Omni from 11:30 A.M.–1:00 P.M. This is your opportunity to hear firsthand how to deal with the difficult circumstances of bullying. Purchase tickets on the Family Service Association website or contact Kathy Glascock, VP of Development and Donor Engagement, at (210) 299-2405 if you have any questions or need additional information.
