Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and if you are looking for a simple, easy, and meaningful gift for your mom or grandma, I’ve got a DIY for you. I love making projects using my children’s hands. They grow so fast, so anytime I can make something using their little hands or fingers I jump on it. This is a gift that Mom or Grandma will truly cherish!
For this project you will need:
- Blank white vases or jars (I found mine at Michael’s)
- Multi-surface acrylic paint (I used Martha Stewart Crafts in Party Streamer, Wild Salmon, and Beach Glass)
- Black Sharpie
Start by taking your child’s finger and lightly dabbing it in the paint. I wanted to see those thumbprints come through on the vase, so to do that, I wiped off any extra paint on the side of the plate. Then I had them paint the vase by lightly dotting it with their fingertips all the way around. Repeat with each color. You can do as many colors as you like. If you are doing multiple vases, it’s easier to do each in one color and then wash hands instead of washing off your hands in between colors.
After the vase completely dries, take your Sharpie and draw stems and leaves on your vase. Don’t forget to add little details to the thumbprint flowers. Your Sharpie may feel like it dries out when you draw over the paint. Just let the Sharpie rest, and the ink will come back. I saved the drawing over the paint as my last part.
Have your kids sign the bottom of the vase and date it. Then fill your vase with succulents or flowers, or you can even use it as desk decor by adding pens or scissors. Mom will truly be surprised by this cute keepsake.
